I went for some bonus Wainwright-bagging on the way up on Sunday, going up Great Mell Fell by probably the wettest hillside in the northeastern Lakes. Monday was a jaunt up Rosthwaite Fell, Glaramara and Allen Crags; Tuesday was Sourmilk Gill, Base Brown, Green Gable, Great Gable and Fleetwith Pike; Wednesday was a lovely expedition round the sides of Gable and Kirk Fell to go up Pillar from the Ennerdale side above Pillar Rock in the snow; and Thursday was an attempt at Grasmoor from Buttermere but it was insanely windy so we gave up and went to the pub. I had a quick run up Great Mell Fell on the way there on Sunday; view looking to Little Mell Fell. Sunburst over Gowbarrow Fell. Munday: Bunkhouse, early of a morning. Some rain moving down the valley. Well, Seathwaite is the wettest place in England. Photogrofaff Rosthwaite Fell, Glaramara behind. DC playing the box game. It made my legs hurt. Tuesday: Looking down to the bunkhouse from the top of Sourmilk Gill. Lunch Buttermere and Crummock Water, from Fleetwith Pike. Back of Dale Head from Fleetwith Pike. Crossing Sourmilk Gill on the way down. Bottom of Sourmilk Gill; it was getting dark. Wednesday: It snowed overnight! Stretcher box at Styhead Tarn. Wasdale from the Gable traverse. Alex looking all dramatic on Great Gable. Tom came too. The col between Gable and Kirk Fell. And again, looking across at Ilgill Head. Snack time. Great Gable. Sunburst into Mosedale, from the slopes of Pillar. Panorama of Gable and the Scafells, from Pillar. Late on, getting back to the col. Alas, much of the snow had melted. Looking to Wastwater and Ilgill Head in the lovely late afternoon sun. Thursday: Intended attempt at Grasmoor from Buttermere, but it was far too windy. So we went to the pub instead, where Ruth won a pint of cider.
